Under the Impact of the Syrian Crisis: Lebanon

Abstract

Although Lebanon declared its independence in 1941, it has not provided political stability in the country. The main reason for the instability in Lebanon has been the shaping of the political system over multiple power-sharing. With its unique ethnic and political structure in the Middle East, Lebanon is a country where the influence of different nations is felt intensely. Accordingly, one of the most influential states on Lebanon has been Syria. The crisis that started in Syria deeply affected Lebanon. The refugee influx created by the Syria crisis and the support of Hezbollah, which is an important element of Lebanese politics, to the Assad administration, has increased tensions among the sects established on a delicate balance in Lebanon. Upon this, the deterioration in the country's economy and the different expectations and desires of the sects in Syria policy caused the political system to be locked in Lebanon. In this study, in order to understand the impact of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon, the historical process has been briefly referred and the effects of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon in the economic, social and national security fields are tried to be analysed

Lübnan, 1941 yılında bağımsızlığını ilan etmesine rağmen, ülkede siyasal istikrarı sağlayamamıştır. Lübnan’da yaşanan istikrarsızlığın temel nedeni ise siyasal sistemin çoklu güç paylaşımı üzerinden şekillenmesi olmuştur. Lübnan, Ortadoğu’da kendine özgü etnik ve siyasi yapısı ile farklı ulusların etkisinin yoğun bir şekilde hissedildiği bir ülke konumundadır. Bu doğrultuda, Lübnan üzerinde etkin bir güce sahip devletlerden biri de Suriye’dir. Suriye’de başlayan kriz Lübnan’ı derinden etkilemiştir. Suriye krizinin meydana getirdiği mülteci akını ve Lübnan siyasetinin önemli bir unsuru olan Hizbullah’ın Esad yönetimine desteği, Lübnan’da hassas bir denge üzerine kurulan mezhepler arasındaki gerilimi arttırmıştır. Bunun üzerine ülke ekonomisinde yaşanan bozulma ve mezheplerin Suriye politikasındaki farklı beklenti ve istekleri, Lübnan’da siyasal sistemin kilitlenmesine neden olmuştur. Bu çalışmada Suriye krizinin Lübnan üzerinde yaratmış olduğu etkinin anlaşılabilmesi için tarihsel sürece kısaca değinilerek Suriye krizinin Lübnan üzerinde yaratmış olduğu ekonomik, sosyal ve ulusal güvenlik alanlarındaki etkileri incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
