Abstract
The load oscillations have occurred on the front and rear axles because of load transfer occurring during the pitch motion. It deteriorates the ride comfort that these oscillations have forced continuously to pitch the vehicle body. This deterioration has differed with respect to the position of centre of gravity of vehicle body and vehicle speed. The objective of this study is to determine separately the front and rear suspension properties containing from the spring stiffness, damper stiffness and the mass of axle which can improve the ride comfort by balancing load oscillations with respect to the position of centre of gravity of vehicle body and vehicle speed. In this study, based on this objective, changing the position of centre of gravity of vehicle body and vehicle speed, the front and rear suspensions which have same and different properties were used. The variations in pitch and bounce acceleration amplitudes obtained at the middle of wheelbase and on the axles in terms of the suspension properties were analyzed with respect to the vehicle speed and the position of cg of vehicle body. According to these analysis results, the suspension properties which may improve the ride comfort were determined. Thanks to these properties, it was seen that the bad effects of load transfer on ride comfort can be decreased by decreasing pitch acceleration amplitudes and increasing bounce acceleration amplitudes. Also, it was determined that the continuity of obtained ride comfort depends on how the suspension property is sensitive to the changes in vehicle speed and position of cg of vehicle body.
