Platonist Approaches on the Dilemmas of Contemporary Democracy

Abstract

Although Plato had lived centuries ago, his ideas about politics is very important in terms of contemporary political problems. The evaluation on the functioning of democracy in this time retains its acceptability in determining the problems of contemporary democratic practices. In this article in the light of criticism that Plato did the problems of the practices of contemporary democracy will be handled and thereafter these problems will be tried to show what kind of solution the contemporary Platonist commentators offer.

Özet

Platon, yüzyıllar öncesinde yaşamış olmasına rağmen politika ile ilgili fikirleri güncel politik problemler açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır. Onun kendi yaşadığı dönemde demokrasinin işleyişine ilişkin yapmış olduğu tespitler, çağdaş demokrasi uygulamalarının problemlerini belirlerken hâlâ geçerliliğini korumaktadır. Bu makalede Platon’un demokrasiye getirmiş olduğu eleştiriler ışığında çağdaş demokrasinin uygulamalarının problemleri ele alınacak ve daha sonra bu problemlere çağdaş Platoncu yorumcuların ne türden bir çözüm sundukları ortaya konmaya çalışılacaktır.
