Effects of ten days preoperative mebendazole treatment on cyst viability of liver hydatid disease

Abstract

AIM: To investigate the effects often days preoperative mebendazole treatment MA TERIAL AND METOD: Fourty patients with hydatid disease divided into two groups. Group one (20 patients) received mebendazole treatment ten days preoperatively in a dose of 50mg/kg. Other twenty patients formed control groups. World Health Organization's guidelines for microbiologic and histopathologic evaluation of echinococcus was used. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Number of viable cysts was 14 and 15 and number of death cysts was six and five in group one and two respectively . Ten days preoperative mebendazole treatment has no effect on cyst viability of liver hydatid disease.

Özet

AMAÇ: Karaciğer kist hidatiğinde preoperatif 10 gün süreli mebendazol tedavisinin kist canlılığına etkisini araştırmak. GEREÇ ve YÖNTEM: Çalışmaya 40 karaciğer kist hidatikli hasta alındı. 20 hastaya (Grup 1) preoperatif, 10 gün boyunca 50mg/kg dozunda mebendazol tedavisi verildi. 20 hastaya (Grup 2) ise tedavi verilmedi. Kist canlılığının değerlendirilmesinde Dünya Sağlık teşkilatının yayınladığı mikrobiyojik ve histopatolojik kriterler kullanıldı. BULGULAR ve SONUÇ: Grup 1 'deki 14 kist canlı, 6 kist ölü. Grup 2 'deki 15 kist canlı, 5 kist ölü olarak değerlendirildi. Karaciğer kist hidatiğinde preoperatif 10 gün süreli mebendazol tedavisinin kist canlılığına etkisi yoktur
