Abstract
Osteogenesis imperfecta (01) is a group of heterogen and hereditary connective tissue disorders, characterized by multiple bone fractures due to defects in synthesis or structure of type I collagen. For different types and there subtypes ofOI were described with clinical, radiographic and molecular genetic studies. In this study, 4 newborn infants withOI, diagnosed by clinical and radiological findings, are presented. Multiple long bone fractures were present in all cases in neonatal period. Two of the cases were thought to be consistent with type I OI because they had blue sclera, no beaded ribs and lived beyond perinatal period. One of the cases suffered from severe respiratory distress and died at four days of age; radiographic studies revealed normal costa-chondral junction and this case was thought be consistent with type IIB OI. The last case who lived until one year of age with multiple wormian bones in skull was thought to be consistent with type III OI.
