The relationship between thyroid autoantibodies and thyroid functions

Abstract

AIM: In this study our aim is to resource the positivity of thyroid autoantibodies in patients with hyperthyroidism Hashimoto's thyroiditis. MATERIAL AND METHOD: In our study the incidence of thyroglobulin (Tg Ah) and thyroid peroxidase autoantibodies (TPO Ab) were evaluated in 141 euthyroid cases (mean age was 44.5±14.5 years), 68 hyperthyroid cases (mean age was 48.6±15.4 years), 30 hypothyroid cases (mean age was 50.7+15.4 years). RESULTS: The incidence of TgAb was 13.5%, 25% and 33.3%, TPO Ab' was 61.7%, 67.6% and 70% in euthyroidism, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism respectively. The incidence of both TPO Ab and TgAb positively was 10.6%, 22.1% and 30% and negatively was 35.5%, 29.4% and 26.7% respectively. CONCLUSION: There was no significant differences in TgAb and TPO Ab according to thyroid morphology and ' thyroid size (except from thyroid function), There was similarity in both male and female ratio. Patient age and the disease time.did not affect the ratio. In conclusion there was no statistically significant difference although TgAb and TPO Ab were frequently positive in hypothyroidism.

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada amacımız hipertiroidi ve Hashimoto tiroiditli hastalarda tiroid otoantikoıianmn pozitifliğini araştırmaktır. YÖNTEM: Çalışmamızda ortalama yaşları 44.5+14.5 yıl olan 141 ötiroid guatr 11, 48.6+15.4 yıl olan 68 hipertiroidili ve 50.7+15.4 yıl olan 30 hipotiroidili hastada tiroglobulin antikor (TgAb) ve tiroid per oksidaz antikor (TPO Ab) varlığını araştırdık. BULGULAR: Ötiroid guatrlı, hipertiroidili ve hipotiroidili hastalarda Tg Ab pozitifliği sırasıyla %13.5, %25 ve %33.3, TPO Ab pozitifliği %61.7, %67.6 ve %70 idi. Her ikisinin pozitif olduğu olguların sıklığı sırasıyla %10.6, %2.1, %30 ve her ikisinin negatif olduğu olguların sıklığı ise %35.5, %29.4 ve %26.7 idi. SONUÇ: Tiroid fonksiyonlarım göz önüne almadan tiroid büyüklüğü ve tiroid morfolojisine göre değerlendirme yaptığımızda Tg Ab ve TPO Ab pozitiflikleri bakımından farklılık saptamadık. Kadın ve erkeklerde görülen pozitiflik oranlan benzerdi. Hastanın yaşı ve hastalığın süresi pozitiflik oranını etkilemedi.
