Abstract

Group A streptococcus (GAS) is an uncommon cause of bacterial meningitis. Although it is reported that GAS meningitis tends to have a favourable outcome, also fatality may occur. An 8 year old girl presented to the hospital with the complaints of fever, vomiting, headache and drowsiness and she was hospitalized with a diagnosis of meningitis. The clinical picture of the patient was deteriorated rapidly. She died 6 hours after presentation in spite of antibacterial and supportive treatment. Cultures of cerebrospinal fluid, blood and nasopharingeal swab yielded group A ß-hemolytic streptococci and the case was presented because GAS is an uncommon cause of meningitis

Özet

Grup A streptokoklar (GAS) bakteriyel menenjitlerin nadir bir etkenidir.
