Small bowel perforation due to a toothpick: Case report

Abstract
Although oral intake of foreign bodies is a common event, these are usually expelled through anus without any complications. Only less than 1% of these foreign bodies results in intestinal perforation. Foreign bodies cause complications other than perforation such as obstruction, hepatic abscess and even death. For this reason, it should be kept in mind in case of a patient with acute abdomen and early intervention is required. Here, a patient with small intestinal perforation due to a toothpick is presented.
Özet
Yabancı cisimlerin oral alımına oldukça sık rastlanmasına rağmen bunlar genellikle herhangi bir komplikasyona neden olmaksızın anal yolla atılırlar. Bu cisimlerin ancak %1'inden azı barsak perforasyonuna neden olur. Yabancı cisimler perforasyonun yanısıra obstrüksiyon, karaciğer absesi gibi diğer komplikasyonlara hatta ölüme de neden olabilirler. Bu nedenle akut karın tanısıyla başvuran hastalarda düşünülmesi ve erken müdahale edilmesi gerekir. Burada kürdana bağlı ince barsak perforasyonu saptanan bir hasta sunmaktayız.
