Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we investigated prevalance of hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses infections in patients with lichen planus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In thirtyfive patients who were lichen planus as clinically and histopathologically, evaluated frequency of hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses infections between 2001 and 2002. There were 16 male and 19 female patients. The mean age was 17-72 years. In addition thirtyfive control group patients who examined dermatological diseases except lichen planus participated our study (21 male, 14 female, age from 14-65). The relation of frequency hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses were evaluated by Chi-Square test. RESULTS: When patients with lichen planus evaluated aspect of HBV infection, 10 (%28.6) cases had been hepatitis and immunization (HbsAg negative, anti Hbs and anti Hbc total positive), 1 (% 2.9) case was active hepatitis (HbsAg positive, anti Hbc Ig M positive), 24 (%68.5) cases were seronegative (HbsAg negative, anti Hbs negative, anti Hbc total negative), 3 (% 8.6) cases were anti HCV positive. In the control group, 11 (%31.5) cases had been hepatitis and immunization, 2 (%2) cases were porter (HbsAg positive, anti Hbs negative, anti Hbc total positive), 22 cases (%66.5) were seronegative were found. Anti HCV was found positive in 2 (%5.7) cases. In 35 patients with LP and 35 control subjects there was no statistical significant difference between hepatitis B and hepatitis C serology (p> 0.05). CONCLUSION: In our study patients with lichen planus and control subject there was no statistical significant difference between hepatitis B and hepatitis C serology. The studies of larger series patients must be performed for the explanation relation between lichen planus and hepatitis virüses infections.
