Skin necrosis of the breast due to methylene blue injection

Abstract

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has become a standart application in early stage breast cancer. Radiocolloid substances and / or blue dye tech- nics like methylene blue or isosulfan blue are used during the SLNB. Although rare, reactions to these substances may ocur. In this case report, we aimed to present a rare complication that is periareolar skin necrosis related with suba- reolar injection of methylene blue, of the patient who was performed lum- pectomy and SLNB because of breast cancer.

Özet

Erken evre meme kanserlerinde sentinel lenf nodu biyopsisi (SLNB) standart hale gelmiş olan bir uygulamadır. SLNB sırasında metilen mavisi, izosulfan mavisi gibi mavi boya teknikleri ve/veya radyokolloid maddeler kullanılmak- tadır. Bu maddelere ender de olsa reaksiyon gelişmektedir. Biz de bu olguda meme karsinomu nedeni ile lumpektomi ve SLNB çalışması yaptığımız hasta- da subareolar olarak enjekte edilen metilen mavisine bağlı nadir bir kompli- kasyon olan, periareolar cilt nekrozunu sunmayı amaçladık.
