EASTERN AND WESTERN INTERACTION ON THE BASIS OF SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENTS

Abstract

Although they change in time and space, the concepts of East and West which are created by the human beings on the framework of their own civilizations and geographical locations contain dimensions which they encounter and intercept. There has always been ones who look to both of these civilizations from a middle point or from a point which is close to the middle. In this study, instead of accepting the superiority of these two to each other, we chose the manner of comparison accordingly, we explain the interaction and the development which happened through time. The study also focusses on some developments belonging to the east which affected to the rise of the west. By putting forward some eastern elements which provided the basis of the Western culture, the interaction of these two traditions are examplified under the titles of science culture and philosophy.

İnsanların kendi medeniyetleri ve coğrafi konumları çerçevesinde oluşturdukları Doğu-Batı kavramı, din ve öğreti farklılaşması, zaman ve mekân değişiklikleri gösterse de, karşılaştıkları/ kesiştikleri boyutları içermektedir. Her iki uygarlığa orta veya ortaya yakın noktalardan bakanlar her zaman olmuştur. İncelememizde, Doğu ya da Batı'nın birbirlerine üstünlüklerini kabul etme yerine, kıyas yoluna giderek bunların zaman içinde gösterdikleri gelişme ve karşılıklı etkileşim izah edilmeye çalışıldığı gibi, Batı'nın yükselişini gerçekleştiren Doğu'ya ait bir kaç keşif, kişi ve yere odaklanılmıştır. Batı kültürünün oluşumuna zemin teşkil eden Doğulu unsurları öne çıkararak, birbiriyle ilişki içinde bulunan iki farklı geleneğin birleşimi; bilim, kültür ve felsefe alanlarındaki bazı aşamalarla örneklendirilmiştir.
