A Qualitative Research on the Reading Cultures of the Social Studies Teacher Candidates

SOSYAL BİLGİLER ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ OKUMA KÜLTÜRLERİ ÜZERİNE NİTEL BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Abstract

This research aims at revealing the reading cultures of the teacher candidates who are the social studies teachers in future. The research is carried out accordingly to phenomenological design one of the qualitative research methods. Phenomenological studies take daily life and experiences as source. The participants of the research are defined according to the criterion sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods. Accordingly 5 girl and 5 boy students from each classes, totally 40 teacher candidates who attend in Social Studies program in Education Faculty at Sakarya University in the spring term of 2016-2017 Academic year become sampling of the research. As means of gathering date semi structured interview form developed by the researchers is used.This study is analyzed by subjecting to the descriptive analysis in the context of the experiences of social studies teacher candidates on reading culture, their choose of books, the factors affected their book selections, the books affected, popular books, books budget, the ways to reach the book, films adapted from books, book recommendations and book discussions

Özet

Bu araştırmada geleceğin sosyal bilgiler öğretmenleri olan öğretmen adaylarının okuma kültürlerini ortaya koymak amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim (fenomenolojik) desenine uygun olarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme göre belirlenmiştir. 2016-2017 Akademik yılı bahar döneminde Sakarya Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Sosyal Bilgiler Eğitimi programına devam eden her sınıf düzeyinden 5'er kız ve 5'er erkek öğrenci olmak üzere 40 öğretmen adayı araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının okuma kültürüne ilişkin deneyimleri kitap tercihleri, kitap tercihlerini etkileyen faktörler, etkilendikleri kitaplar, popüler kitaplar, kitap bütçeleri, kitaba ulaşma yolları, kitaptan uyarlanan filmler, kitap tavsiyeleri, kitap tartışmaları bağlamında betimsel analize göre incelenmiştir
