Jalaluddin Dawani’s Concept of Ithbat al-Wajib, and His Influence on the Ottoman World of Thought

Celâleddîn ed-Devvânî’nin İsbât-ı Vâcib Anlayışı ve Osmanlı Düşünce Dünyasına Etkileri

Abstract

In the Ottoman thought tradition, the works and opinions under the influence of kalam and its late period in particular served as carriers over the centuries. This period, which is famous for traditions of sharh (commentary) and hashiya (marginal notes), spanned approximately 800 years between 13th and 20th centuries which known by its traditions of the commentary. During these centuries, Khorasan-Samarqand region in the north and Iranian lands in the east became culture circles which had the most influence on the Ottoman Empire. The treatises of ithbat al-wajib (‘proof of the Necessary Being’) occupy an important place among the works of this period in which philosophy and kalam drew near to each other in terms of topics, contents and style. This study presents a brief introduction to two treatises of Jalaluddin Dawani, a scholar of 15th century Iran, drawing attention to his concept of ithbat al-wajib and his place in the Ottoman science tradition broadly and also gives excerpts from his comments and marginal notes.

Özet

Osmanlı düşünce geleneğinde Kelâm ilmi ve özellikle müteahhirîn kelâmının müessiriyetindeki eser ve görüşler yüz yıllar içerisinde taşıyıcı bir görev üstlenmiştir. Bu dönem şerh ve hâşiye gelenekleriyle bilinen XIII. yüz yıldan XX. Yüz yıla kadar yaklaşık 7-8 asır gibi uzun bir süreyi kapsamaktadır. Bu yüz yıllarda kuzeyden Horasan-Semerkant bölgesi, doğudan İran-Fars kültürü çevreleri Osmanlıyı en fazla etkileyen ilim havzaları olmuştur. Felsefe ve kelâm ilminin konu, muhtevâ ve üslup olarak birbirine yaklaştığı bu dönemin eserlerinde önemli bir yeri de isbât-ı vâcib risâleleri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmamızda İran bölgesi âlimlerinden Celâleddîn ed-Devvânî’nin isbât-ı vacib anlayışına ve Osmanlı ilim geleneğindeki yerine genel hatlarıyla dikkat çekilerek iki risâlesinin kısaca tanıtımı yapılacak, şerh ve hâşiyelerinden örnekler verilecektir.
