Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the views of prospective teachers on being a democratic individual and ethical attitudes of a teacher using the story by Richard Bach, “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”. The study is a “case study”, which is among qualitative research designs. The study group consisted of 24 students receiving the elective course of “Education, Culture and Democracy” and attending three different undergraduate programs at the Faculty of Educational Sciences in Ankara University in the fall term of the academic year of 2017-2018. “Focus group interviews” were implemented with the students attending three different undergraduate programs in groups of four. In the study, the distinctive features of a democratic individual were found to be “sense of justice and right”, “being participative” and “equality”, whereas ethical attitudes of a teacher were found to be “merit”, “devotedness” and “authenticity.”
