The Tawakkul Understanding within the Context of Ashrafoglu Rumi’s Work “Müzekki’n-Nüfûs”

Abstract

In the Qur’an, tawakkul is expressed in the form of a fardh (obligation), for which every mu’min (believer) is responsible. In the discipline of sufism, on the other hand, it is an important position that the sufi is expected to reach, besides its obligation upon every Muslim. From the religious and sufistic perspective; tawakkul is a servant’s commitment to Allah, his assumption that Allah is the guarantor of his rizq and deeds, as well as his reliance on Him. This study puts emphasis on the importance of tawakkul for Quran and sunnah in general and aims to examine the approach of Ashrafoglu Rumi, who is the founder of the Ashrafiyya order, one of the branches of the Qadiriyya order, to the matter within the context of his work “Müzekki’n-Nüfûs” in particular. In his work, we see that the author who teaches his disciple the Islamic ethics, order morals and means of mujahadah (struggling) with nafs writes his tawakkul approach with references to verses, hadiths and anecdotes (menkibe). In the tawakkul approach, the person's faith, worship, rizq (provision) and patience are of prime importance. Strongs faith is necessary in order to become one of those who possess tawakkul since the essence of faith is tawakkul. In the article, we will try to explain the relationship of tawakkul with these four concepts to understand the nature of tawakkul between Allah and human better.

Özet

Tevekkül, Kur’an-ı Kerim’de her mü’minin mükellef olduğu bir farz şeklinde geçmektedir. Tasavvuf ilminde ise, her mü’mine farziyetinin yanı sıra tasavvuf ehlinin ulaşması beklenen önemli bir makamdır. Dinî ve tasavvufî boyutuyla tevekkül, kulun kendini Allah’a teslim etmesi, rızkında ve işlerinde Allah’ı kefil bilmesi ve O’na güvenmesidir. İşte bu çalışma genel itibariyle tevekkülün Kur’an ve Sünnet’teki önemi üzerinde dururken özelde ise, Kadîriyye tarikatının kollarından biri olan Eşrefiyye’nin kurucusu Eşrefoğlu Rûmî’nin konuya yaklaşımını “Müzekki’n-Nüfus” isimli eseri bağlamında incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Eserinde müride İslâm ahlakını, tarîkat âdâbını ve nefisle mücadele yollarını öğreten müellifin, tevekküle yaklaşımını ayet, hadis ve menkıbelerden referanslarla kaleme aldığını görüyoruz. Tevekkül yaklaşımında kişinin iman, ibadet, rızık ve sabır konusundaki durumu büyük önem arzetmektedir. Ehl-i tevekkül olabilmek için güçlü bir iman gerekir. Zira imanın aslı tevekküldür. Makalede Allah ile insan arasındaki mevcut olan tevekkülün mahiyetinin daha iyi anlaşılabilmesi için onun bu dört kavramlarla bağlantısı izah edilmeye çalışılacaktır.
