The Comparison of Parents with Disabled Children and Parents with Healthy Children in Terms of Their Levels of Religious Coping, Hope and Patience

Abstract
In the present research, it was aimed to examine and compare parents with disabled children and parents with healthy children in terms of their levels of religious coping, hope and patience. A personal information questionnaire, religious coping, hope and patience scales were used in this study. In the research, the questionnaires were applied to the parents having children with moderate and advanced mental disabilities and with autistic disorder studying in special education schools and the parents of healthy children in Afyonkarahisar. The sample group, the parents of healthy children, was selected by simple random sampling method/technique. The obtained data were analyzed using t test. The findings indicated that the parents with disabled children had higher scores in “Positive Religious Coping” and two sub-scales of positive religious coping: “Heading towards God” and “Religious Pleading” than the parents with healthy children. There was no significant difference found between scores of the parents with disabled children and parents with the healthy children with regards to “negative religious coping, hope and patience”.
Özet
Araştırmada, engelli çocukların ebeveynleriyle sağlıklı çocuk sahibi ebeveynlerin dini başa çıkma, umut ve sabır düzeylerinin incelenmesi ve karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Kişisel bilgi anketi, dinî başa çıkma, umut ve sabır ölçeğinin kullanıldığı araştırma, Afyonkarahisar’da özel eğitim uygulama okullarında öğrenim görmekte olan orta ve ileri düzeyde zihinsel engelli ve otistik çocukları olan ebeveynler ile sağlıklı çocukları olan ebeveynlerden basit tesadüfî örnekleme yoluyla seçilen örneklem grubu üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler t testi yapılarak analiz edilmiş, olumlu dinî başa çıkma ve olumlu dini başa çıkmanın Allah’a yönelme ve dinî yalvarma alt boyutlarında engelli çocuk sahibi ebeveynlerin puanlarının sağlıklı çocuk sahibi ebeveynlerin puanlarından anlamlı derecede daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. İki grubun olumsuz dinî başa çıkma, umut ve sabır puanları arasında anlamlı bir farklılaşmaya rastlanmamıştır.
