An Ideological Analysis of the Kadro and Yön Movements

Abstract

Following the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, a series of hasty reforms was initiated in social, economic and educational spheres. Some intellectuals in Turkey wanted to publish a magazine through which they would make their ideas concerning these reforms more systematic by fitting them into an ideological mold. For this purpose, Kadro Magazine had been published by a group of intellectuals led by names such as Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu, Sevket Süreyya Aydemir and Vedat Nedim Tör.The magazine aimed to produce a set of ideas for defining and propagating the ideology of the reforms and creating an economically and socially developed, classless society. The coup d'etat on May 27th, 1960 prompted major changes in the social life in Turkey. In the meantime, certain other intellectuals also suggested some ideas in order to overcomee the tough period which Turkey had been experiencing, and aspired to transform these ideas into a systematic ideology. The present study endeavors to provide a comparative analysis in the context of the ideological similarities and differences of the Kadro and Yön movements.

Özet

Cumhuriyet ilan edildikten sonra Türkiye’de özellikle toplumsal ve iktisadi alanlarla eğitim sahasında hızlı bir şekilde inkılâp süreci başlamıştır. Türkiye’deki bazı aydınlar bu inkılâp süreciyle ilgili fikirlerini bir ideolojik kalıba oturtmak ve bir dergi çıkararak daha sistemli bir hale getirmek istemişlerdir. Bu amaçla Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, Şevket Süreyya Aydemir, Vedat Nedim Tör gibi isimlerin başını çektiği bir grup aydın tarafından Kadro dergisi çıkarılmıştır. Derginin amacı inkılâbın ideolojisini tanımlamak ve yaymak, sınıfsız bir toplum yaratmak, ekonomik ve toplumsal kalkınmayı sağlamak için bir dizi fikirler üretmektir.27 Mayıs 1960 darbesi ile Türkiye’de toplumsal hayatta büyük değişiklikler yaşanmıştır. Yine o dönemde bir kısım aydınlar Türkiye’nin içinde bulunduğu zorlu süreci atlatabilmesi için bazı fikirler öne sürmüşler, bu fikirleri ideolojiye dönüştürmek ve sistemli hale getirmek istemişlerdir. Çalışmada Kadro ve Yön hareketlerinin ideolojik benzerlikleri ve farklılıkları çerçevesinde bir mukayeseli analiz yapılmaya çalışılacaktır.
