Comparison of Educational Perceptions of Foreign Students and Turkish Students about Each Other

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the perceptions of foreign students and Turkish students about each other in the classroom environment. In the study, qualitative research method was chosen, phenomenology design was used, data were collected from the field with a semi-structured interview form and content analysis was performed. The sample of the study consists of 20 foreign students and 20 Turkish students. The students from different countries and the Turkish students were compared in terms of classroom relations, studying habits and communication in the classroom environment. As a result of the interviews, the Turkish students found the foreign students more hard working and it was seen that their studying habits were daily repetitions, going to the library and doing research. It was also determined that they did not have any problems arising from cultural differences in the classroom environment and they had positive relations. The foreign students found the studying habits of the Turkish students inadequate and memorization-based and assessed their classroom relations positively.
Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı, yabancı uyruklu öğrenciler ile Türk öğrencilerin sınıf ortamında birbirlerine yönelik algılarının belirlenmesidir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi seçilmiş, fenomenoloji deseni kullanılmış, yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat formu ile sahadan veriler toplanarak içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 20 yabancı uyruklu öğrenci ve 20 Türk öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Farklı ülkelerden gelen öğrenciler ile Türk öğrencilerin sınıf ilişkileri, ders çalışma alışkanlıkları, sınıf ortamında iletişimleri gibi durumlar karşılaştırılmıştır. Görüşmeler neticesinde, Türk öğrenciler yabancı uyruklu öğrencileri çalışkan bulmuş; ders çalışma alışkanlıklarının günlük tekrar, kütüphaneye gitme, araştırma yapma olduğu görülmüş; sınıf ortamında kültürel farklılık kaynaklı sorun yaşamadıkları, ilişkilerinin olumlu olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yabancı uyruklu öğrenciler, Türk öğrencilerin ders çalışmalarını yetersiz, ezberci bulmuş, sınıf ilişkilerini olumlu değerlendirmiştir.
