Outcomes of exercise treatment in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

Abstract
Benign Paroxysmal Positionel Vertigo (BPPV);a périphérie vestibular system disease that otolaryngology and neurology physicians frequenty face with and the symptom of which may frighten the patients but treatment targeting underlying exact etiology resolve the problem in effective manner. We evaluated prospectively 175 patient diagnosed to have BPPV at Haseki Education and Resarch Hospital Department of Otolaryngology. A modified Epley maneuver that canalith reposition procedure was applied to 151 patients having posteriorcanal paroxysmal positionel vertigo and in unsuccessful cases Semont maneuver was performed with 95% succes.In 24 patients with horizontalcanal paroxysmal positional vertigo 'barbekue' maneuver performed with 91,66% succès.
Özet
Benign Paroksismal Pozisyonel Vertigo (BPPV); Kulak Burun Boğaz ve Nöroloji hekimlerinin sık karşılaştıkları, semptomları hasta açısından oldukça korkutucu olabilen ve bunun yanında gerçek fiziksel nedene yönelik tedavi yaklaşımları ile pratik ve etkili bir şekilde tedavi edilebilen periferik vestibüler sistem hastalığıdır. Haseki Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Kulak Burun Boğaz Polikliniği'ne başvuran ve BPPV tanısı konulan 175 hasta, prospektif olarak değerlendirildi. Posterior kanal paroksismal pozisyonel vertigo tanısı konulan 151 hastaya modifiye Epley manevrası olan kanalit repozisyon prosedürü, düzelmeyen hastalara Semont tarafından tarif edilen serbestleştirici manevra uygulandı ve % 95 başarı sağlandı. Horizontal kanal paroksismal pozisyonel vertigo tanısı konulan 24 hastaya 'barbekü' manevrası uygulandı ve % 91.66 başarı sağlandı.
