Determination of Classification Parameters of Potatoes with The Help of Image Processing and Artificial Neural Network

Abstract

Quality is one of the important factors in the marketing of agricultural products. Classing machineshave a great importance in quality control systems. The most efficient method in the present classing machines isimage processing. In this study, the classification of potatoes in terms of size with the help of image processingtechniques and artificial neural network was aimed. Before the classification process, potatoes that have malformationand deformation in the outer surface were detected by using Otsu method and morphological processes. Thesepotatoes were kept outside the classification. Later on, potatoes without any anomaly were classified in terms oftheir sizes. For this, the system was trained with pictures of small, middle and large-sized potatoes by using multilayeredartificial neural networks. In this study, Matlab software was used for the use of image processing andartificial neural networks. By using image processing techniques and artificial neural networks, classification accomplishmentsof potatoes were studies.

Özet

Kalite, tarımsal ürünlerin pazarlanmasında önemli faktörlerden biridir. Kalite kontrol sitemlerinde sınıflandırma makinelerinin önemi büyüktür. Günümüzdeki sınıflandırma makinelerindeki en etkin yöntem görüntü işlemedir. Çalışmada patateslerin boyut olarak görüntü işleme teknikleri ve yapay sinir ağı yardımıyla sınıflandırılması amaçlanmıştır. Sınıflandırma işleminden önce dış yüzey ve şekil bozukluğu olan patatesler Otsu metodu ve morfolojik işlemler kullanılarak tespit edilmiş ve sınıflandırma dışı tutulmuştur. Daha sonra sorunsuz patateslerin boyut olarak sınıflandırılması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bunun için küçük, orta ve büyük boy patates resimleri alınarak Çok Katmanlı Yapay sinir ağları kullanılarak sistem eğitilmiştir. Çalışmada görüntü işleme ve yapay sinir ağları kullanımı için Matlab yazılımı kullanılmıştır. Görüntü işleme teknikleri ve yapay sinir ağları kullanılarak patateslerin sınıflandırma başarıları irdelenmiştir
