Production Possibilities of Brined Vine Leaves in Iğdır

Abstract

Viticulture is one of the major agricultural branches and both grape and brined vine leaves are producedin Turkey. Brined vine leaves production is more common in some regions such as Tokat and Manisa provincesbecause marketing and storing is easier and it is more economical than grape production. Therefore, manyfarmers have tended to produce brined vine leaves than grape in these regions. Brined vine leaves production andconsumption has continuously increased in Turkey recent years.Also, brined vine leaves demand has been increased especially in western countries and catering sector recentyears. Narince, Sultani Cekirdeksiz and Yapincak grape cultivars are more suitable for this purpose. Igdir provincehas a suitable ecology for viticulture. Therefore, it can be one of the alternative production models for Igdir province.It can make important contribution to economy in Igdir province.
