Abstract
This research aimed to determine the allelopathic effects of different doses of solutions (25, 50, 100 g L-1) obtained from the stems of two oat cultivars (Checota and Kahraman) on the germination and seedling development of some oilseed plants (sunflower, safflower, rapeseed, and soybean) and, wheat and oats. Germination percentage (%), mean germination time (days), root and shoot length (cm), seedling fresh and dry weight (mg plant-1) and root/shoot ratio were examined. Electrical conductivity (EC) and pH values of solutions prepared from oat cultivars were also determined. According to the results of the research, the EC value of the solutions increased and pH values did not change due to increasing doses. It was determined that oat cultivars and solution doses had no significant effect on germination percentage of the investigated plants, except for soybean. Mean germination time of all plants retarded with increasing doses. Root and shoot length of sunflower, safflower, rapeseed and soybean plants decreased with increasing solution doses. The development of wheat and oat seedlings was prevented by increasing doses, and no significant difference was found between oat cultivars. Kahraman severely inhibited seedling growth in safflower and soybean, while Checota was found to be more inhibitor effects in sunflower and rapeseed plants. As a result, it was concluded that oat stems had allelopathic effects on the examined oilseed plants but significant adverse effects occurred at higher doses on wheat and oat, while allelopathic effects of oat cultivars were different from each others.
