Analysis of Competition Power of Vegetable Seed Foreign Trade using Porter’s Diamond Model: The Case of Antalya Province

Sebze Tohumu Dış Ticaret Rekabet Düzeyinin Porter’ın Elmas Modeliyle Analizi: Antalya İli Örneği

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the global competitiveness power level of the vegetable seed sector in the case of Antalya Province. The population of this study was the exporter companies of vegetable seeds in Antalya Province. The primary data of the study were obtained from 40 active companies using face to face surveys. Porter's Diamond Model was used to determine the competitiveness level of the sector. In the Diamond Model; there are four main determinants as input conditions, demand conditions, firm strategy, relevant and supportive sectors, and two auxiliary determinants as state effect and chance factor. The answers of sub-variables under these determinants were put forward with the questions with the 5-point Likert scale questions. The Diamond Model result shows that the vegetable seed sector had a moderate level of competitiveness in global foreign trade.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Antalya İli örneğinde sebze tohumculuğu sektörünün küresel rekabet düzeyinin ortaya konulmasıdır. Araştırmanın ana kitlesini, Antalya İlinde sebze tohumculuğu dış ticareti yapan firmalardır. Araştırmanın verileri, sebze dış ticareti yapan 40 aktif firma ile yapılan yüz yüze anketlerden elde edilmiştir. Sekörün rekabet düzeyinin belirlenmesinde Porter’ın Elmas Modeli kullanılmıştır. Elmas Modelinde; girdi koşulları, talep koşulları, firma stratejisi, ilgili ve destekleyici sektörler olmak üzere dört ana belirleyici, devlet etkisi ve şans faktörü olmak üzere iki de yardımcı belirleyici faktör vardır. Bu belirleyicilere ait alt değişkenlerin cevapları, 5’li Likert ölçeğine göre oluşturulmuş sorularla ortaya konulmuştur. Elmas Modeli bulguları, sebze tohumculuğu sektörü küresel dış ticarette orta düzeyde rekabet gücüne sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.
