The Origin and Development Sufi Communities The North-West Caucasus

Abstract
The article summarizes the theme of the emergence of communities of different areas of Sufism from the middle ages to the twentieth century. The author considers the spread of Sufism among the indigenous peoples of the Northwest Caucasus – Circassians, Karachays, Nogays under the influence of missionaries from Central Asia, the Ottoman Empire. Special attention is paid to the order of the Naqshbandiyya, which was the most popular during the last two hundred years.

Имеющиеся материалы позволяют утверждать, что решающую роль в преодолении архаичных воззрений на власть у народов Западного Кавказа принадлежит не просто исламу, а его мистическому течению – суфизму. Очевидно, не будет большой смелостью констатировать, что суфийская тематика применительно к Западному Кавказу остается «белым пятном» современной этнографии, по крайней мере – отечественной.
