One Youngster on Ageing World: Turkey

Abstract
Sociodemographical ageing is one of the most important phenomena of the 21 st century concerning Turkey. The 2000 statistics of the State Statistical Institute, demonstrate the fact that in 20-30 years 20 million persons are going to belong to the category of the elderly. Turkey has a dynamic structure through consequences of the process of modernity like urbanization, migration, unemployment, high rates of birth and increasing rates of working women which cannot be prevented. Due to this highly dynamic structure lifestyles and choices of lifestyles are changing both for the young and for the ageing people. İn Turkey, which owns the youngest society of Europe, a huge mass of approximately 40 million, is going to be ageing or alderly in a short period of time like 20-30 years. Therefore appropriate reactions must be given to these sociodemographical conditions.

21. yüzyıl Türkiye'sinin sosyodemografik yaşlanma en önemli konularından birisidir. Devlet İstatistik Enstitüsü 2000 verileri gelecek 20-30 yılda ülkemizdeki 20 milyon kişinin yaşlı kategorisine gireceğini ortaya koymaktadır. Modernleşme süreci, göç, işsizlik, yüksek doğum oranı ve kadının çalışma yaşamına girmesinin sonuçlarıyla Türkiye dinamik bir yapıya sahiptir. Oldukça dinamik yapıya bağlı olarak hem gençlerin hem de yaşlıların yaşam tarzları, seçimleri değişkenlik göstermektedir. Avrupa'nın en geç toplumu olan Türkiye 20-30 yıl gibi kısa bir sürede yaklaşık 40 milyon kişi yaşlı kategorisine girecektir. Bu nedenle bu sosyodemografik koşullara uygun tepkilerin verilmesi gerekmektedir.
