Concept Development and School Readiness In 6 Year Old Children: A Comparative Study of Orphans vs Children with Their Families

Abstract
This study was planned to evaluate the concept development and school readiness of orphan children in conparison to children who live with their families. The sample space of this study consisted of 30 orphan children and 30 children who lived with their families, totaling 60 children ali aged 6. To assess concept development, Bracken Basic Conbept Scale (BBCS) Screening Tests (Forms A and B) were used, Each form consists of 30 items selected from the following Diagnostic Scale subtests: comparisons, shapes, direction/position, social/emotional, size, tezture/material, quantity and time/sequence. To evaluate school readiness Metropolitan School Readiness Test was used. Metropolitan School Readiness Test is a performance test. The test is comprised of six sub-tests and covers 100 items. These are; Word meaning, sentences, information, matching, numbers, copying. The data obtained as a result of these processes were statistically evaluated by the t-test.

Bu araştırma korunmaya muhtaç çocuklarla ailesi ile birlikte yaşayan çocukların kavram gelişimlerini ve okula hazırbulunuşluk düzeylerini karşılaştırmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu 30'u korunmaya muhtaç ve 30'u ailesi ile birlikte yaşayan çocuk olmak üzere toplam 60 altı yaş grubu çocuğu oluşturmuştur. Çocukların kavram gelişimlerini değerlendirmek amacıyla Bracken Temel Kavram ölçeğinin (BBCS) Tanılama Testi (A ve B Formları) kullanılmıştır. Tamlama testinin her bir formu diagnostik ölçeğin karşılaştırma, şekiller, yön/konum, sosyal/duygusal, uzay, doku/materyal, miktar ve zaman/sıralama alt testlerinden seçilmiş 30 maddesinden oluşmaktadır. Çocukların okula hazırbulunuşluk düzeyleri Metropolitan Okul olgunluğu Testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Metropolitan Okul Olgunluğu Testi bir performans testidir. Test, kelime anlama, cümleler, genel bilgi, eşleştirme, sayılar, kopya etme olmak üzere 100 maddeyi içeren altı alt testten oluşmaktadır. Elde edilen veriler t testi kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir.
