Prevalence of Smoking at a High School Second Grade Students

Abstract

In this study it was aimed to determine the prevalence o f smoking of the second grade students and their approach to smoking at an Anadolu High School in Ankara. At the end o f the research it was seen that 53.7% o f students have never experienced smoking and 16.3% are still smoking. The mean age of their smoking experience was 13.6-2.9. The prevalence o f smoking among their families was 66.7%. The close relationship between smoking behavior and smoking o f closed friends and adolescents was significant. D e-spite the law on smoking (the Law on Preventing the Harms o f Tobacco Products) there was not a marked change in smoking prevalence among the adolescents. So, it will be useful to enforce the law more strictly and inform the adolescents.

Özet

Bu araştırma, Ankara 'da bir Anadolu lisesi ikinci sınıf öğrencilerinin sigara içme prevalansı ve sigara içme konusundaki görüşlerinin saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma sonunda öğrencilerin %5 3.7’sinin sigarayı hiç denemediği ve %16.3’ünün halen sigara içtiği saptanmıştır. Sigara ile tanışma yaş ortalaması 13.6-2.9 ’dur. Öğrencilerin ailelerinde sigara içme prevalansı %66.7 ’dir. Adolesanlar ve yakın arkadaşlarının sigara içme sıklıkları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptanmıştır. “4207 Sayılı Tütün Mamüllerinin Zararlarının Önlenmesine Dair Kanun”a rağmen adolesanlarda sigara içme prevalansında önemli bir değişiklik olmamıştır. Bu nedenle yasanın daha titizlikle uygulanması ve adolesanların bilgilendirilmesi yararlı olacaktır
