THE FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF OTTOMAN INTELLECTUALS ON SOCIOLOGY: DICTIONARIESAND EARLY WORKS

Abstract
The discipline of sociology emerged as Western-centered in order to find solutions to social crises as a result of political, economic and social transformations in Western society. The changes that occurred in the multicultural social structure of the Ottoman Empire starting with the Tanzimat. During the proclamation of the Constitutional Monarchy, it became evident with the transformations and interactions in the world outside the Empire. In this process, the Ottoman intellectuals began to follow the French Sociology literature especially on the axis of Westernization and to discuss the writings containing the definitions of Sociology and the views of early Western sociologists in order to find solutions to social problems. While studies on the history of Turkish Sociology generally mention limited before the letter revolution, following the formation of the discipline and its perception through articles other than the dictionaries and founding names of the schools will reveal the early perception and interpretation of sociology. This study will focus on the impressions of sociology in articles and books other than dictionaries and known copyright works.
Özet
Sosyoloji disiplini Batı toplumunda meydana gelen siyasal, ekonomik ve sosyal dönüşümlerin sonucunda meydana gelen toplumsal krizlere çözüm aramak üzere Batı merkezli olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun Tanzimat Fermanı ile başlayan süreçte çokkültürlü toplumsal yapısında meydana gelen değişimler II. Meşrutiyet’in ilan edildiği süreçte İmparatorluğun dışında kalan dünyadaki dönüşüm ve etkileşimlerle belirgin hale gelmiştir. Osmanlı aydını bu süreçte özellikle Batıcılaşma ekseninde Fransa Sosyoloji literatürünü takip etmeye ve Sosyoloji ile ilgili tanımları ve erken dönem Batılı sosyologların görüşlerini içeren yazıları toplumsal sorunlara çözüm aramak amacıyla tartışmaya başlamıştır. Türk Sosyoloji tarihi çalışmaları genellikle harf devrimi öncesinde sınırlı değinirken disiplinin teşekkülünü ve algılanışını dönemde yayımlanan sözlükler ve ekollerin kurucu isimleri dışındaki makaleler üzerinden takip etmek sosyolojinin erken dönem algılanışı ve yorumlanışını daha belirgin olarak ortaya koyacaktır. Bu çalışmada sözlükler ve bilinen telif eserler dışındaki makale ve kitaplardaki sosyoloji izlenimleri ve Osmanlı aydınının sosyoloji ile karşılaşmalarında edindiği izlenimleri, kendi toplumsal yapısı ve entelektüel dünyasında gerek terminoloji gerekse kavramsal olarak biçimlendirişini ortaya koyması üzerinde durulacaktır.
