Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this report is to discuss four cases of carcinoma arising from tamoxifen-induced endometrial polyps. STUDY DESIGN: Four patients were reviewed for age and symptoms at diagnosis, medical history for risk factors associated with endometrial cancer, duration of tamoxifen use, smoking history, and histopathologic findings. RESULTS: In all of the cases, cancer was limited to the polyps, and the surrounding endometrium of the malignant polyps was atrophic or normal. In these cases diagnosed by curettage or hysteroscopy, intraoperative frozen section analysis ensured to make the accurate decision. CONCLUSION: Frozen section analysis may be an appropriate approach to preventing patients with tamoxifen-associated malignant endometrial polyps from being overtreated.
