Abstract

A total of 612 deliveries with premature rupture of membranes after 37 weeks gestation were reviewed. Ninety-one of 285 nulliparous (31.92%) and 3 of 327 multiparous women (0.91%) were delivered by cesarean section (p<0.05). The incidence of neonatal infection due to premature rupture of membranes was 14.38% in the group of nulliparous women and 3.36% in the group of multiparous women (p<0.05). In conclusion, premature rupture of membranes seems to be associated with high maternal and neonatal morbidity particularly in the nulliparous women. (Gynecol Obstet Reprod Med 1997;3:370-372)
