Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To analyse the prenatally diagnosed fetal talipes cases by ultrasonography in Diagnostic Unit of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. STUDY DESIGN: All records of Erciyes University Prenatal Diagnosis Unit were reviewed between January, 2000 and January, 2002. Fetal talipes with additional abnormalities and isolated cases were identified. Karyotype of fetuses and pregnancy outcomes were presented. RESULTS: There were 16 cases of prenatally diagnosed fetal talipes between January, 2000- January, 2002. These cases were diagnosed in gestational age from 16 through 35 weeks. Two isolated unilateral, 3 isolated bilateral, 7 bilateral with multiple abnormalities, 2 bilateral with skeletal dysplasia, 1 unilateral with sacrococcygeal teratoma, 1 unilateral with neural tube defect were identified by USG. One of 16 cases had chrosomal abnormality (trisomy 21). Lethal cases with multiple abnormalities were terminated after ultrasonographic diagnosis. Three isolated bilateral and 2 isolated unilateral talipes were corrected by surgery. CONCLUSION: The relationship between the shaft of tibia and plantar surface of the foot must be screened routinely in fetal USG. The management of cases must be determined whether the presence of additional structurel or chrosomal abnormalities and lethality.
