Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety profiles of ondansetron and a placebo when infused immediately prior to anesthesia induction of gynecologic laparoscopic surgery for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. STUDY DESIGN: Fifty women scheduled to undergo gynecologic laparoscopic surgical procedure while receiving general endotracheal anesthesia. Ondansetron 4 mg or placebo was administered prior to induction of anesthesia. Nausea and vomiting were assessed at Vz hr intervals for 6 hours after surgery. We asked the subjects about feelings of nausea then noted the subject on a 10-point scale (1 being absence of nausea and 10 being significant nausea including retching, actual vomiting). We recorded blood pressure, heart rate and inspiration rate in this period. Also we measured liver enzyme, hemoglobin, serum sodium and potassium level after one day of surgery. RESULTS: More patients in the ondansetron group (76%) th'an in the placebo group (20%) was emesis-free over the 6-hour study period (p<0.05). The degree of nausea was significantly lower for ondansetron-treated patients than for placebo-treated patients (p<0.05). Ondansetron and placebo had similar safety profiles as established by laboratory test results, and vital sign monitoring (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Ondansetron 4 mg IV administered immediately before the induction of anesthesia is effective in preventing POVN in gynecologic laparoscopic surgery and it was well tolerated, with no side effect being reported as a significant problem.

Bu çalışmada Celal Bayar Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Anabilim Dalı'nda laparoskopik cerrahi uygulanan toplam 50 kadında Ondansetron 4 mg'm postoperatif bulantı ve kusmayı önlemedeki etkinliği ve yan etki profili placebo ile karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirildi. Preoperatif uygulanan Ondansetron 4 mg'ın postoperatif bulantı ve kusmayı istatistiksel olarak anlamlı oranda azalttığını ayrıca laboratuar test sonuçlan ve vital bılgular değerlendirildiğinde plasebo ile aynı güvenlik profiline sahip olduğu gözlendi. Sonuç olarak, Jinekolojik laparoskopik cerrahi olgularında anestezi indüksiyonundan hemen önce uygulanan Orjdansetron 4 mg postoperatif bulantı ve kusmayı önlemede etkili olup herhangi bir yan etki oluşturmamaktadır.
