Abstract

In the first 24 hours following cataracts surgery, toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) may occur secondary to surgical trauma, lens remnants, bacterias, sterile toxic substances and other unknown causes. It is charecterized by blurred vision, corneal eodema, and/or hypopion and a large immobile pupil. Differential diagnosis of this syndrome must be done together with early bacterial endophthalmitis which develops 4 to 7 days after surgery. Recovery through cortisone treatment is a spesific characteristic of this syndrome. In recent years, many differerent intraocular materials from various countries have been used, so in this article the importance of the origin of the pharmaceuticals is emphasized.

Özet

Katarakt cerrahisi sonrası ön segment enflamasyonu, cerrahi travma, lens artığı, bakteri, steril toksik maddeler ve diğer bilinmeyen nedenlere bağlı olarak ilk 24 saatte ortaya çıkan, bulanık görme, kornea ödemi ve/veya hipopiyon, geniş ve hareketsiz pupillayla karekterize olan toksik ön segment sendromu’nun ayırıcı tanısı, 4 ile 7. günde gelişen bakteriyel endoftalmi iledir. Kortizon tedavisiyle iyileşmesi özelliğidir. Son yıllarda yurdumuzda çok farklı ülke kaynaklı ve değişik göz içi maddelerinin kullanılması nedeniyle bu yazıda tıbbi malzeme alımında dikkatli olunması gerektiği vurgulanmıştır
