The comparison of blue color perception between pseudophakic and phakic eyes using on anomaloscope

Abstract
Purpose: To compare the changes in a blue color perception sensitivity with age between pseudophakic eyes and age- matched phakic eyes. Materials and Methods: Twenty-nine pseudophakic eyes of 29 patients (group A) with a mean age of 67.9±7.1 years and 29 phakic eyes of 29 age-matched controls (group B) with a mean age of 64.5±6.4 were included in the study. Blue-green color vision was evaluated with the Moreland equation of the HMC Anomaloscope. Anomaly quotients were calculated from the matching range values. The data were compared between group A and B before and after the division of each group into 3 age subgroups (group I: ≤64 years, group II: 65-71 years, group III: ≥72 years). Results: The mean blue color vision anomaly quotients were lower in the pseudophakic eyes than they were in the pha- kic eyes. However, the difference was not statistically sig- nificant (p>0.05). Blue color perception significantly dec- reased with age in both groups (p<0.05). Although there was no statistically significant difference in anomoloscope anomaly quotients between pseudophakic eyes and phakic eyes within age group I and II (p>0.05), anomaly quotients were lower in pseudophakic eyes than they were in phakic eyes within age group III (p<0.05). Conclusions: Blue color vision deteriorates with age in both pseudophakic and phakic eyes. Starting from the mid-6th decade, the deterioration in blue color perception with age is more prominent in phakic eyes than it is in pseudophakic eyes.

Amaç: Psödofakik gözler ile yaş-uyumlu fakik gözlerin mavi renk görme duyarlılıklarının yaşla beraber değişimini kar- şılaştırmak. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya ortalama yaşı 67.9±7.1 yıl olan 29 hastanın 29 psödofakik gözü (A, çalışma grubu) ile ortalama yaşı 64.5±6.4 yıl olan yaş-uyumlu 29 hasta- nın 29 fakik gözü (B, kontrol grubu) dahil edildi. Mavi-yeşil renkli görme monoküler olarak Anomaloskoptaki (HMC Anomaloskop MR, Oculus, Almanya) Moreland formülü kullanılarak değerlendirildi. Elde edilen eşleşme aralığı de- ğerlerinden anomali oranları hesaplandı. Elde edilen veri- ler A ve B grupları arasında her iki grup 3 yaş alt-grubuna bölünmeden önce ve bölündükten sonra karşılaştırıldı (I. grup: ≤64 yıl, II. grup: 65-71 yıl, III. grup: ≥72 yıl). Sonuç: Ortalama mavi renk görme anomali oranlarının psö- dofakik gözlerde fakik gözlerden daha düşük olduğu be- lirlendi. Ancak, aradaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildi (p>0.05). Hem psödofakik hem de fakik gözlerde yaşla beraber anomali oranlarında anlamlı artış gözlendi (p 0.05), III. yaş grubunda anomali oranlarının psödofakiklerde fakiklerden anlamlı olarak daha düşük olduğu belirlendi (p<0.05). Tartışma: Mavi renk görme duyarlılığı hem psödofakik hem de fakik gözlerde yaşla beraber azalmaktadır. Altmışlı yaş- ların ortalarından başlayarak fakik gözlerdeki mavi renk duyarlılığındaki azalma psödofakik gözlere göre daha be- lirgindir.
