Palliative care nursing

Abstract

It is seen that cancer incidence and morbidity in the world is increasing. Cancer patients are living longer than in the past because of the developing in medicine and techonology. Palliative care is the active total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. Control of pain, of other symptoms, and of psychological, social, and spiritual problems is paramount. The goal of palliative care is the achievement of the best quality of life for patients and their families. An effective palliative care focuses on the patient and the family and requires a multidisciplinary approach. Doctors, nurses, social worker and religious functionaries may play a role in palliative care. A nurse involved in a palliative care team should should be able to make a comprehensive evaluation of patients and their families needs. She should have effective communication skills,listen to them carefully, respect patients and their families knowledge and decisions. The nurse provide support and care for all family members of a patient. The nurse in a special palliative care team should be aware of their abilities and limitations. She should always update their knowledge and skills.

Özet

Son yıllarda tıp ve teknolojideki gelişmeler kanserli bireylerin yaşam sürelerini uzatmıştır. Kanserli çocukların yaşam süresindeki bu artış palyatif bakıma olan gereksinimi arttırmıştır. Palyatif bakım hasta ve ailesi yaşamı tehdit eden sorunla karşılaştığında, ağrı ve diğer fiziksel, psikososyal ve manevi problemlerin erken dönemde belirlenmesi, dikkatlice değerlendirilmesi ve tedavi edilmesiyle acı çekmesi önlenerek hasta ve ailesinin yaşam kalitesini geliştiren bir yaklaşım olarak tanımlamaktadır. Etkili bir palyatif bakım multidisipliner bir yaklaşımla hasta ve ailenin gereksinimlerine odaklanır. Hemşire, doktor, sosyal hizmet uzmanı, psikolog, diyetisyen ve din görevlisi bu ekipte önemli bir role sahiptir. Palyatif bakım ekibi içinde hemşire hasta ve ailesinin gereksinimlerini kapsamlı bir şekilde değerlendirmelidir. Etkili bir iletişim becerilerine sahip olmalı, hastayı dikkatle dinlemeli, hasta ve ailesinin bilgi ve kararlarına saygı duymalıdır. Hemşire hasta ve ailesine gerekli bakım ve desteği sağlamalıdır. Hemşire kendi yeteneklerinin ve sınırlarının farkında olmalıdır. Bilgi ve becerisini sürekli yenilemelidir.
