Proprioception of the shoulder joint in healthy and unstable

Abstract

Proprioceptive mechanisms appear to play a role in stabilizing the glenohumeral joint and may serve as a means for interplay between the static stabilizers and the dynamic muscle restraints. The aim of this study was investigated proprioception of the patient with shoulder joint in healthy and unstable. Shoulder proprioception was measured in 46 subjects who were assigned to two expermental groups: Group I (n=20), healthy subjects; Group II (n = 26), patients with anterior instability. Joint position sense was measured with a Cybex II isokinetic dynamometer and electronic goniometer. The results revealed no significant difference in proprioception between dominant and nondominant shoulders in group I. Significant differences (p<0.001 and p<0.05) were found between unstable and uninvolved shoulder for active joint position sense in group II. These results implies that damege in capsuloligamentous structures and muscles can lead to proprioceptive deficits because of partial deafferentiation.

Proprioseptif mekanizma glenohumeral eklem stabilizasyonunda rol oynar ve kapsüloligamentöz yapılar ile dinamik kas kuvvetleri arasında etkileşimi sağlar görülmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, sağlam ve instabil omuz eklemine sahip bireylerde propriosepsiyonun araştırılmasıydı. Omuz propriosepsiyonu toplam 46 kişiden oluşan 2 deneysel grupta ölçüldü. Grup I sağlıklı bireylerden (n=20), Grup II anterior instabiliteli omuzlara sahip kişilerden oluşmaktaydı. Eklem pozisyon duyusu Cybex II izokinetik dinamometre ve elektronik goniometre ile ölçüldü. Grup I'de dominant ve nondominant omuzlar arasında propriosepsiyonda anlamlı bir fark yoktu. Grup II'yi oluşturan hastalarda ise instabil omuzlarla, sağlam omuzlar arasında anlamlı değişikler saptandı (p<0.001 ve p<0.05). Bu sonuçlar, kapsüloligamentöz yapılar ve kaslardaki hasarların, kısmi deafferantasyon nedeniyle proprioseptif yetersizliğe neden olduğunu göstermektedir.
