Reasons of why pregnant women do not take prenatal care

Abstract

Prenatal period is the emotional and physical time for getting ready to delivery and maternity. Main purpose of prenatal care is to protect pregnant from pregnancy complications and to maintain well-being of mother and fetus. Data by the World Health Organization show that more than half a million maternal deaths occur gtobally every year; 99% occur in developing countries and 1% occur in developed ones. Most maternal deaths can be prevented with appropriate prenatal care. One of the factors, decreasing fetal and maternal deaths in developed countries, is to understand the importance of prenatal care and develop new policies providing support for it. Performing studies about the reasons of why pregnants do not or can not get care, and making suggestions according to the results of these studies emphasize the importance of this issue. As a result, healthy societies will be composed by both recognizing the factors affecting the prenatal care and reducing the negative factors.

Özet

Doğum öncesi dönem, doğum ve ebeveynliğe fiziksel ve psikolojik olarak hazırlanma sürecidir. Doğum öncesi bakımın ana amacı, gebeyi gebelik komplikasyonlarından korumak, anne ve fetusun iyilik halini sürdürmektir. Dünya Sağlık Örgütü verilerine göre her yıl yaklaşık olarak yarım milyondan fazla anne ölümü görülmekte, bunun %99'u gelişmekte olan, %1'i ise gelişmiş ülkelerde gerçekleşmektedir. Yeterli doğum öncesi bakımla, anne ölümlerinin çoğu ödenebilmektedir. Gelişmiş ülkelerde anne ve bebek ölümlerinin düşük olmasını sağlayan faktörlerden birisi, doğum öncesi bakımın öneminin anlaşılması ve buna yönelik sağlık politikalarının geliştirilmesidir. Gebelerin yeterli doğum öncesi bakım almama veya alamama nedenlerini araştıran çalışmaların yapılması ve sonuçlarına yönelik önerilerde bulunulması, bu konunun önemini vurgulamaktadır. Sonuç olarak, gebelerin doğum öncesi bakım almalarını etkileyen faktörlerin tanımlanması ve olumsuz faktörlerin en aza indirilmesiyle sağlıklı toplumlar elde edilecektir.
