Investigation of plasmid profiles of nosocomial MRSA strains

Abstract
Nosocomial infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are a significant epidemiological problem. There has been a steady increase in the incidence of these infections in recent years. Recent reports indicate that plasmid profiling analysis is more useful and practical and reproducible in identifying MRSA in nosocomial outbreaks. In this study, we evaluated plasmid profiling analysis of 14 MRSA strains isolated from oncology and hematology departments of our hospital for epidemiological work. We determined 3 plasmids that have molecular weights between 1.5Kb and 13Kb from 13 samples out of 14 samples by using Mini-prep method.
Özet
Metisilin dirençli Staphylococcus aureus'un (MRSA) sebep olduğu nozokomiyal infeksiyonlar belirgin bir epidemiyolojik problemdir. Son yıllarda bu infeksiyonların insidansında devamlı bir artış söz konusudur. Son çalışmalar, nozokomiyal salgınlarda MRSA'nın tanımlanmasında plazmid profil analizinin daha faydalı, daha pratik ve daha üretken olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu çalışmada, hastanemizin hematoloji ve onkoloji bölümlerinde yatan hastalardan izole edilen 14 MRSA suşunun epidemiyolojik araştırma yönünden plazmid profilleri çalışılmıştır. Araştırmaya alınan 14 örneğin 13'ünde, Mini-prep yöntemi ile, ağırlıkları 1.5Kb ile 13Kb arasında değişen üç adet plazmid saptanmıştır.
