Early surgical treatment of achilles tendon ruptures and our results

Abstract
Although Achilles tendon ruptures have been known since the time of Hippocrates, cantroversary on the treatment methods are still continuing. In this study, we aimed at reporting the results of 44 cases in which early treatment by using Lindholm method was performed because of Achilles tendon rupture between December 1993- October 1999 in GATA. In all cases, the operations were performed in the first 6-24 (average 13,5 hours) hours after the event. Generally we obtained 42 good and 2 poor results. When we graded the functional results according to scale of the AFAS (American Foot and Ankle Society), 38 patients got 100, 2 patients 90, and 4 patients 78 points. We did not observe any rerupture or other major complication in any case. In conclusion, we believe that early surgical treatment of Achilles ten¬don rupture is a more effective alternative than the other methods.

Asil tendon rüptürleri Hipokrat'tan itibaren biliniyor olmasına rağmen tedavisinde hala tartışmalar devam etmektedir. Bu çalışmamızda Aralık 1993-Ekim 1999 yılları arasında GATA Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji AD'da asil tendon rüptürü nedeniyle, Lindholm tekniğiyle erken cerrahi tedavi uyguladığımız 44 olgumuzun sonuçlarını sunmayı amaçladık. Bütün olgularımızda ameliyat olaydan sonra ilk 6-24 saat içinde (ortalama 13.5saat) yapıldı. Genel olarak 40 hastada iyi 4 hastada kötü sonuç elde edildi. Fonksiyonel sonuçlar AFAS (American Foot and Ankle Society) skalasına göre değerlendirildiğinde ise; 38 hasta 100, 2 hasta 90 ve 4 hasta da 78 puan aldı. Hiçbir hastamızda rerüptür ve major komplikasyon gözlenmedi. Sonuç olarak asil tendon rüptürlerinin erken cerrahi tedavisinin diğer tedavi yöntemlerine göre başarılı bir alternatif oluşturduğu kanısındayız.
