Spinal meningiomas

Abstract

Meningiomas are the second most frequent tumor of the spinal cord and they contribute about 22-25 % of spinal cord tumors. In this study, twenty cases with spinal meningiomas are analyzed for clinical findings, surgical technique and outcome. The tumors are located to thoracic region in 17 patients, to cervical region in three patients. All meningiomas in the cervical region were posterolateral to the spinal cord. Thoracal ıneningioma was anterolateral to the cord in one patient, posterolateral to the spinal cord in the remaining 16 patients. Complete tumor removal was achieved in 19 patients, while a subtotal removal could be performed in one patient. There was no mortality in our series. Eighteen (90 %) patients had complete recovery in the postoperative period

Özet

Meningiomlar. omurilik tümörleri arasında ikinci sıklıkta görülür. Primer omurilik tümörlerinin, %22-25'ini oluştururlar. Bu çalışmada 20 olguluk spinal meningioma serisi klinik bulgular, cerrahi teknik ve sonuçlar açısından incelendi. Tümörler. 17 olguda dorsal, üç olguda servikal yerleşimliydi. Servikal bölgedeki meningiomaların üçü de omuriliğin posterolateralinde yerleşmiş idi. Dorsal bölgedeki meningiomalardan biri anterolateral 16'sı posterolateral yerleşimli idi. Tümörler 19 olguda total, bir olguda ise subtotal çıkartıldı. Serimizde mortalite bulunmamaktadır. Ameliyat sonrası erken dönemde 18 olgu (%90) tam iyileşme göstermiştir.
