Abstract
The Salahiyah Madrasah was built at the end of the 12th century, named after its founder Salah al-Din, and different sciences, as well as religious sciences, were taught by important scholars from different regions of the Muslim World. This educational institution, which is twenty meters away from al-Asbat Gate, one of the entrances to the Old City, was developed during the Ottoman Empire and continued to serve as a complex. It served in this way until the date it was allocated to Christian clergy by the British occupation in 1917 and started to be used as a church, school and library. This study, after a short introduction about the value of education in terms of the continuity of societies and the emergence of the school as an educational institution, will discuss the process of emergence of madrasas, which are original educational institutions belonging to Islamic culture. The article will then examine the construction process of the Salahiyah Madrasa in Jerusalem, one of Islam’s holiest cities, as well as the place where it was founded, its naming, commencement and development process, in addition to its administrative structure, the issues related to its Waqf, the scholarly fields taught, the scholars, the prominent students, as well as the Ijazah certification system.
