Abstract
Pressure ulcers remain a common complication of spinal cord injury and they are associated with significant morbidity and costs. Maggot therapy can be used successfully to treat chronic, long-standing, infected wounds, which have previously failed to respond to conventional treatment. Maggot therapy consists of the application of sterile species of fly larvae (maggots) at the wound bed. This method has three core beneficial effects on a wound: debridement, disinfection and enhanced healing. In this case report, we aimed to present the dramatic healing with maggot therapy for a pressure ulcer resistant to conventional wound treatment in a patient with spinal cord injury.
