Severe Bradycardia due to Mad-Honey Intoxication in Two Patients

Abstract

Mad Honey Poisoning occurs with the consumption of honey produced from nectar and pollen of Rhododendron flowers, located in the forest areas of the Black Sea region in Turkey, containing grayanotoxin. Poisoning is caused by the excessive consumption of fresh and pungent honey containing grayanotoksin. Cardiovascular and gastrointestinal complaints are common in these cases. In order to make the diagnosis of mad honey poisoning, which can rarely cause life-threatening situations, excessive and fresh honey consumption as well as the patient's current complaints should be questioned in medical history

Özet

Deli Bal Zehirlenmesi, Türkiye'de özellikle Karadeniz bölgesinin ormanlık alanlarında yer alan Rhodedendron çiçeklerinin grayanotoksin içeren nektar ve polenlerinden üretilen balın tüketilmesi ile meydana gelir. Zehirlenme grayanotoksin içeren taze ve keskin kokulu balın aşırı tüketilmesi ile olmaktadır. Olgularda gastrointestinel yakınmalar ve kardiyovasküler sisteme ait bozukluklar sık görülür. Nadiren de olsa yaşamı tehdit eden durumlara neden olabilen deli bal zehirlenmesinin tanısını koyabilmek için, hastanın mevcut şikâyetlerinin yanında, anamnezinde aşırı ve taze bal tüketim bilgisini sorgulamak gerekmektedir
