A Research into the Relationship Between Personal Values and Piety

Abstract

In the present day, values are one of the important topics of both the social sciences and the religious sciences. The religions, which provide schemata for life, serve to create and foster individual and social values. Theoretical explanations and experimental studies on religion and value reinforce the idea that these two are mutually supportive concepts. This study which dealt with the relationship between personal values and piety was conducted on 562 married people living in Bursa. In that survey, “Personal Information Form”, “Personal Values Scale” and, “The Feeling of the Effect of Religion Scale” was used. According to the findings, piety and personal values differ according to demographic variables. Based on the results of the analysis, significantly positive relationships were found between personal values and piety.

Değerler günümüzde hem sosyal bilim hem de din bilimleri alanının önemli konularından biridir. Hayata dair bir anlam şeması sunan dinler, bireysel ve sosyal değerleri oluşturma ve destekleme görevi görmektedir. Din ve değer ilişkisine dair yapılan teorik açıklamalar ve deneysel çalışmalar, bu iki kavramın birbirini destekleyen kavramlar olduğu fikrini kuvvetlendirmektedir. Kişisel değerler ve dindarlık arasındaki ilişkiyi konu edinen bu çalışma, Bursa’da yaşayan 562 evli birey üzerinde yapılmıştır. Çalışmada “Kişisel Bilgi Formu”, “Kişisel Değerler Ölçeği” ve “Dinin Etkisini Hissetme Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Bulgulara göre, dindarlık ve kişisel değerlerin demografik değişkenlere göre farklılaştığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca analiz sonuçlarına göre kişisel değerler ve dindarlık arasında pozitif yönlü anlamlı ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir.
