Abstract
Turks have created works with high technical and aesthetic features with wood materials as well as stone and brick. The wooden material used in the carriers of the monumental works and architectursal elements such as minbar (pulpit), which was built by the Anatolian Seljuks for the first time, continued to increase its use during the Beyliks period. It was moved out of the capital city with Ottoman architecture and was used in the construction of rural village mosques since the eighteenth century. This situation continued until the middle of the twentieth century. In this article, mosques with wooden supports and wooden ceilings built in the villages of the central district of Kars in the midtwentieth century were identified and examined, and their position in Turkish architecture was revealed with a general evaluation.
