Abstract
: The history of women’s expression through writing, in the turn of the 19th to the 20th century in Greece and in the region of Ottoman Hellenism, includes in addition to literary, also pedagogical and educational works and a small number of magazines. To the extent that the publishers and editors of these magazines are women and are addressed mainly to a female readership, through their published content they aim at improving the position of women, at redefining their role, at more substantial education and a way into to the public sphere. For the Greek women scholars of the 19th century, women’s magazines were a field of immersion in writing but also a gateway to the public space, through their collaborations, their writing and translation course, the entrepreneurship in the publishing activity. The corresponding historical, financial, social and literary conditions, the difficulties and conflicts, the obstacles, the suspensions but also, to some extent, the favorable conditions and facilitations, constituted the framework in which the educated women of the 19th century both in the Greek state and in Diaspora, they represent a recognizable category in the history of printed speech, in the history of women’s publishing. Cornelia Preveziotou Tabaniotou was one of these women publishers.
Özet
