Lion Figure in Harakani Tales and Our Culture

Abstract

Abu'l-Hasan Harakânî is one of the prominent Sufism leaders that historical Horasan region raised. He is also known by his legendary identitiy, as much as he is known as a historical personality. In our study, as the topic we chose his tale, which enlightens this aspect of him and in which the lion figure takes place. It is seen that the tale, coming from four different sources, presents quite rich materials in terms of Sheik's historical personality. One other aspect of the tale is its extraordinary aspect, as in other tales. Here, two wild animals such as a lion and a snake which serves the Sheik are presented. By the sources transferring the tale, this particularity is associated with the Sheik being a "man of God", who devoted himself to the right. Additionally, the lion figure has not only taken place in this tale, but it also has been largely used in Turkish literature and architecture. Rich samples of them are also included in our study. It is believed that this figure, which is given place in our literary and architectural works, is originated from our ancient Central Asia Turkish culture.

Özet

Ebu'l-Hasan Harakânî , tarihî Horasan bölgesinin yetiştirdiği önde gelen tasavvuf önderlerinden birisidir. O, tarihî bir şahsiyet olduğu kadar menkıbevi kimliği ile de tanınmaktadır. Çalışmamıza konu olarak onun bu yönünü aydınlatan içerisinde aslan figürü olan menkıbesini seçtik. Dört ayrı kaynaktan gelen menkıbenin Şeyh'in tarihi kişiliği açısından oldukça zengin malzemeler sunduğu görülmektedir. Menkıbenin diğer veçhesi ise başka menkıbelerde olduğu gibi olağanüstü yönüdür. Burada aslan ve yılan gibi iki vahşi hayvan Şeyh'e hizmet eder vaziyette takdim edilmektedir. Bu husus, menkıbeyi nakleden kaynaklarca, Şeyh'in kendisini Hak yoluna adamış bir "Allah adamı" olmasına bağlanmıştır. Ayrıca aslan figürü yalnızca bu menkıbede yer almayıp, Türk edebiyatında ve mimarisinde bolca kullanılmıştır. Çalışmamızda bunların zengin örnekleri de yer almaktadır. Edebi ve mimari eserlerimizde kendisine yer verilen bu figürün kadim kültürümüz olan Orta Asya Türk kültüründen esinlendiği düşünülmektedir.
