The pilomatrixoma

Abstract

The pilomatrixoma is originating from hair follicle matrix. Its incidence is 0.1 among all skin tumors and it is mostly seen in Caucasians. It is mostly located on the head and neck region. It presents as well-circumscribed subcutaneous lesion. It has been diagnosed usually in the first two decades of life. The definitive diagnosis is made on histopathological examination.The tumor is histopathologically consists of basoloid cells, shadow cells, keratin filaments, cornified material, and giant cells. Malignant variants of pilomatrixoma have also been reported. Recommended treatment is surgical excision. In this study, we wanted to present a patient who presented with swelling, excisional biopsy applied and whose pathological result was reported to be pilomatrixoma in the light of the literature

Özet

Pilomatriksoma kıl folikül matriks hücrelerinden köken almaktadır. Tüm deri tümörleri arasında %0,1 oranında ve beyaz ırkta daha sık görülmektedir. En çok baş ve boyun bölgesinde görülmektedir. İyi sınırlı subkutanöz lezyon olarak bulgu verir. Genellikle ilk 20 yaş içinde tanı konulmaktadır. Kesin tanısı histopatoloji ile konulur. Histopatolojik olarak bazoloid hücreler, gölge hücreleri, keratin filamanları, kornifiye materyal ve dev hücrelerden oluşmaktadır. Pilomatriksomanın malign formları da bildirilmiştir. Önerilen tedavi cerrahi eksizyondur. Bu çalışmada şişlik ile başvuran, eksizyonel biyopsi uygulanan ve patolojisi pilomatriksoma bildirilen olguyu literatür eşliğinde sunmak istedik
