Other pharmacotherapy options and alternative treatment methods in allergic rhinitis

Abstract

Intranasal corticosteroids and oral antihistamines, and leukotriene receptor antagonists in selected ca- ses are the most preferred drugs for pharmacothe- rapy of allergic rhinitis. Alternative pharmacothera- peutic approaches are needed in cases which those drugs can not be used for various reasons; in cases which resulted in side-effects, not effective, or not preferred. In this paper, other pharmacotherapy op- tions and alternative treatment methods in the tre- atment of allergic rhinitis are described based on “Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA)” guidelines and current literature.

Özet

Allerjik rinitin farmakoterapisinde intranazal kortikosteroidler, oral antihistaminikler ve seçilmiş olgularda lökotrien reseptör antagonistleri en sık tercih edilen ilaçlardır. Bu ilaçların çeşitli nedenlerle kullanılamadığı, etkin olmadığı, yan etkiye yol açtığı ya da tercih edilmediği durumlarda yeni tedavi yöntemlerine ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu yazımızda allerjik rinit tedavisinde kullanılabilecek diğer farmakoterapi seçenekleri ve alternatif tedavi yöntemleri “Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA)” kılavuzu ve güncel literatür bilgileri eşliğinde anlatılmıştır.
