Abstract
The aim of the study is to investigate prevalence HBV and HCV infection in unimmunized elderly outpatients applied to Afyon Kocatepe University Hospital check-up units due to other reasons than hepatitis. This study has included of 97 cases (female: 42, male: 55,average age: 53.2±11.3). HBsAg, antiHBs, antiHBc and antiHCV in serum was examined by ELISA with Diasorin commercial kits. Positivity rates were HBsAg 6.2 % and antiHCV 1.03 % in all groups, HBsAg, antiHBs and antiHBc in female 4.8 %, 11.9 % and 14.3 %; in male 7.3 %,14.5 % and 18.2 % respectively. Difference between male and female was not statistically significant (p>0.05).The rates of HBV and HCV infection in elderly persons in Afyon region were higher than otherpopulation. As a result, it seems to be important that should screen the under high risk elderly person and vaccinate those immunized as soon as possible.
